Glucose!

I missed posting last week, but I didn’t miss the pictures. Notice the bunnies have nibbled my sign!

Last week’s excitement was that I had my glucose test- it didn’t taste nearly as bad as I expected.  More like bad Gatorade.  Luckily the test came back normal, so I can go ahead and keep eating lots of chocolate.

This week is the last of my second trimester- the babies are the size of cauliflower, and they can open their eyes now.  Some doctors think they can dream now too, due to increased brain activity and development.  What they would dream about is beyond me… probably more sounds of beating hearts and images of umbilical chords?

According to my doctor, I’m measuring 32 weeks, so hopefully they’re getting nice and fat in there!

AZ babies!

I’ve missed a week since we were busy traveling back to AZ!  We were quite the circus in the airport, and our cavalcade was composed of lots of bags, a pregnant woman, two bunnies, and a cat.  And Joshua, who had to carry all the bags and the cat because all I could really handle were the bunnies!  We all made it, safe and sound.

I missed the week 23 post, but here are some pics:

Last week we had a doctor’s appointment and another ultrasound.  We got some cute pictures out of it 🙂  The boy was measuring 1 pound 7 ounces, and the girl was 1 pound 3 ounces.  So we have a big brother and little sister!

Life is getting much more interesting as I get further along.  When I can sleep, I have lots of crazy dreams (I dreamed that a friend found an orphan baby seal, and our bunny Pitu decided to be it’s adopted mother).  I also have to learn to negotiate around furniture, people, etc. with the new appendage that is my stomach.

The babies can now hear distinctly, and their inner ears are developed, which means they can tell if they are upside down or right side up!  They are still moving a lot, and sometimes I feel like they might be practicing their boxing moves on one another.  They are now the size of a corn cob or a cantaloupe- whichever you like best, I guess!

Week 24 pictures:

It’s pretty clear they are growing fast!  Lucky us- our families have been spoiling us with plenty of good food!

Oreos

One website’s comparison for this week is my favorite by far- the babies are about the size of a pack of Oreos.  I’m assuming they mean one of those smaller roll packs- not one of those gigantic packs you’d buy in the grocery store.  Although, looking at these pictures, that wouldn’t be so unbelievable.  The other comparison was to a spaghetti squash.  Not nearly so appetizing.

Here are the pics!

In this weeks news, the babies sense of touch is now developed, so they will start exploring things, like their umbilical chord.  And my insides.  They are moving more and more, too.  Also, my belly button is looking more and more like an outie!

21

So here we are at 21 weeks!  The babies are now 10.5 inches long- already!  One site compared them to even bigger bananas than last week… or if you prefer, a pomegranate.  I’m not sure how they come up with these fruit and vegetable comparisons.

Here are the 21 week pictures, as usual:

The news for this week is that I no longer have a belly button- no innie, no outie.  And my new favorite hobby seems to be watching my stomach, since we can see them move now.  The babies are growing nails now- hopefully they don’t start clawing one another in there.  They can also begin to taste what I eat!  Strange and fascinating!

Finally, it has been confirmed by at least three different doctors that we are having a boy and a girl.  So it is now open season for buying pinks and blues!!!

More than half-way…

We’ve had to skip week 19 because we were moving, and we still don’t have internet.  Here are some 19 week pics!

This week the little ones were 6 inches.  I found lots of fruit comparisons, but, getting a bit tired of the fruits, I found one site that compared them to a 6-inch sub.  Hmm….  maybe we’ll stick to fruits and veggies 🙂

Our week 20 pictures were taken in our new flat.  This week the babies are 6.5 inches, aka the size of a banana.

This week I felt them moving a lot more.  Sometimes I can even see their kicks, which is really fun, and really reassuring!  I don’t even mind the sciatica as long as I know they are having some fun in there, although my colleagues at work told me I walk like a duck.  I also can’t see my feet anymore, and I just have to assume that I’m shaving my legs evenly all over.

Double Mangoes

This week, the babies are the size of mangoes, and I can feel their mango-judo chops more and more often.  Here are some 18 week pictures:

I’m also pretty sure I experienced my first pregnancy craving, in the form of a banana.  I had already eaten my usual lunch, and all of the sudden I had a major, major desire for a banana.  And when I ate it, it was the best thing I’d eaten in my entire life.  I eyed another banana that was on the counter, and it was tempting, but I figured I’d better stop at one.

In other news, we had another doctor’s appointment today, with a quick ultrasound.  This was a different doctor, who disagreed with the previous doctor about the genders; this one said she didn’t see any boy.  So the doctor’s are disagreeing, and we are trying to patiently wait until our next ultrasound in February.  Tricky babies!

Drumroll….

This week we had our ultrasound, where the doctor tried to look VERY carefully at the genders.  And she is “almost” positive that they are…

!!!

But we’ll wait for our next ultrasound to be totally sure!  We can’t run out and buy pink and blue just yet!

The doctor noticed that the girl was kicking the boy in the head- already acting like siblings!  I’m sure they were “love kicks” 😉  We got a nice picture of little girl, but the boy was turned upside-down with his back to the camera, so maybe we’ll have a better photo op next time!

This week, the babies are the size of onions (the size of the foods are debatable, because I have an avocado-their relative size last week-in my house right now that is much bigger than an onion, but I’m confident that they are growing, so they must be some big onions!)

To prove how big these onions are, here are the 17 week pics.

This week the babies can open and close their mouths, which also means they can suck their thumbs!  They have fingerprints already, and are moving their eyes around, although they can’t open them just yet!

Just for fun, here is a picture of their progress from week 10 to week 16! (You can click on the picture to make it bigger).

All Ears!!!

Week 16!  The babies are the size of avocados, and they can now start to hear things, like Mommy’s voice 🙂  I wish I had a nice soprano to serenade them with, but I can get through “You Are My Sunshine” without too much screeching.

Here are some pictures of how much they’ve grown this week:

Other milestones:  They are now strong enough for me to feel them moving around occasionally.  I first felt their little “tap tap tap” when I was teaching, and I’m sure I had a big dumb smile on my face.  Other than the taps, it also feels like bubbles popping.  Love the feeling!
